Pick your weapon. Some are fast, some are permanent, some are both — and the ones I haven't used myself say so on the page.

Lethal and hands-on methods for eliminating gophers that are already in your yard.
Use classic Victor pinch traps in active main runs for fast, repeatable captures.
Deploy cinch-style traps in open tunnel runs for quick mechanical control.
Deploy a high-prey-drive dog as a first-line gopher detection and hunting tool — breed matters less than drive.
Flooding is a dog-hunting tactic — it pushes gophers toward the surface where a dog can catch them. Without a dog, skip it and trap instead.
Faster kill methods for larger infestations — higher risk, higher stakes.
Use approved exhaust-injection devices to deliver carbon monoxide into sealed tunnel systems.
Place rodenticide bait directly in active gopher tunnels for lethal control without digging up the yard.
Stop gophers from getting in. Best installed before planting or during a rebuild.
Use underground wire mesh to physically block gophers from garden beds and root zones.
Install underground perimeter fencing to block gopher migration into yards, orchards, and large planting areas.
Choose plants that gophers avoid eating so your landscaping survives without constant intervention.
Install a barn owl nesting box to establish a natural, long-term gopher predator on your property.
Supplementary tools and when to hand it off to someone else.
Apply castor-oil-based repellents to make feeding zones less attractive and push activity outward.
Drive solar-powered vibration stakes into active runs to disrupt and displace gophers without traps or poison.

Mechanical trapping — either Victor (Macabee) or Cinch-style traps — is the most reliable method for active infestations. Traps work directly in the main tunnel, require no chemicals, and give immediate results. See the Quick Start guide for the exact process.
Not according to the research. UC IPM found no repellent effective at protecting plantings, and frightening devices such as vibrating stakes "haven't been effective in research trials." Trapping is what clears a yard.
Both are main-run mechanical traps. Victor traps use a wire pinch mechanism and are the classic Macabee style. Cinch traps use a scissor-jaw design that many find easier to set and less prone to misfiring.
A single gopher can be caught within 24–48 hours with a properly placed trap. If you're dealing with multiple gophers or a yard-wide infestation, plan for 1–3 weeks of active trapping to clear the population.
